5 Times the Movie was Better than the Book
It is an axiom universally accepted that “the book is better than the movie”. And most of the time, it’s an axiom that holds true.
But not always. Sometimes, there are truly not-amazing books that, for one reason or another, end up being transformed into iconic and amazing films. Much more rarely, amazing books are turned into transcendental films that, at least in this writer’s humble opinion, outshine the original work.
Let’s get down to business.
5. A Walk to Remember
As a tween, I practically wore out my grandma’s VHS of A Walk to Remember whenever we visited, and especially after we moved in. I’ve always been a sappy and sentimental type. Back then, I didn’t expect my life to turn into a strangely parallel story: but then again, none of us expect that.
Anyhoodles, fast forward to my freshman year of high school, when I was found A Walk to Remember on the shelves, and checked it out instantly. But whatever joy I felt died when I started reading it.
It wasn’t terrible, not for a Nicholas Sparks yarn. But the book was a reminiscence of Old Grandpa Landon, talking about life in the ’50s when you could get three peanuts for a shilling and whatnot. Certain elements of the story make more sense (e.g. most blood cancers were a death…
