A Break in the Clouds
A Year of Sonnets — 011/365

Will you now raise a song in brighter blue,
divest your melancholy for a spell
and let your hopeful heart ring clear and true?
Look out your window! See that all is well
in this small moment: jewel tones crack through grey —
Now catch it in your lungs! Hold heaven near
however long you can, for light will fray,
diminishing to naught — so hold it dear
and hope for better years, awash in light —
if light indeed outlasts these iron skies —
but carry on, through winter wind and night;
our enemies persist in grief and lies.
May you endure: unconquered if in grief,
and find your way to joy beyond belief.
