Benediction for a Would-Be Optimist
A Sonnet
Mar 4, 2024
May dreams descend from darkness into light
and hope become a pillar for your prayers
and all the stars of heaven line just right
and bitterness be blown by gentle airs
so very far away. May flame renew
the tired cinders in your weary chest;
serenity becomes the potent glue
that binds emotion to your heavy breast
with nothingness seeps in. May you awake
on dawnless days and see the hidden sun
in all its glory. May your devils quake
and find the weary dreamer has begun
to rise, uneasy from a night of grief
to face the day with iron-clad belief.
