I got an early start in theatre, doing a few shows while I was in elementary school. But I didn’t really become a Theatre Kid until my senior year of high school where, after years of nagging from my mother, I went out on a limb and tried out for the fall play. And then the spring musical. And then I got involved in the local youth theatre. . .

Okay, this isn’t really the time for my history or relationship with the stage; it’s long and kind of fraught and a fun story. But this is about the songs that you need to know.

Some of my favorite memories from being a Theatre Kid, along with the group of amazing friends that came along with the stagelights (another long and fraught story, to come at a different time) were the spontaneous moments of song. And, coming to the party late, I felt the compulsion to learn these songs.

Once these songs get stuck in your head, they never come out. And that’s a very, very good thing.
