How to Start GO-ing.

Once Again, I’m late to the Pokemon Party.

During my brief state of computerlessness earlier in the week, I found myself downloading an app that I’ve been wanting to play for years: Pokemon Go.

I have a long and storied history with Pokemon, one that involves a lot of mocking from my family and a great many hours spent with my face inside a Gameboy. From Elementary school, where me and my first best friend, Ariel, would spend our recess and lunchtime together, Game Boy Colors linked together on well into adulthood, where I’ve spent most of my time envying people who could afford a 3DS and the Pokemon games — ever since I had to pawn mine back in 2014.

I tried Pokemon Go when it first came out, of course, but I have to admit that I dispensed with it pretty quickly. First of all, I lived in a wildly rural area, only going into town on occasion for classes. I’d’ve had to walk several miles to get to the nearest PokeStop, let alone to actually catch any pokemon. It felt slow-paced and kind of boring. Which I suppose it is, for someone sedentary. It’s a game that rewards being on the go.

But things are different now. I live in Reno now, a fairly large city, with a good number of gyms and PokeStops within quick driving distance, if not walking distance. There are also a bunch of parks, many of them full of…
