Hymn of Defiance
A Year of Sonnets — 060/365

A tired star descends from Heaven high
above the nothing songs we deign to sing
and though we wrap ourselves in lonely sky
this little light may pack a mighty sting,
an unexpected hope when all is lost,
infusing grace into the empty bones;
a pyrrhic sacrifice, unholy cost
repaid, redeemed: they stand now unalone
defiant of the Darkness’ gentle ebb,
unraveling the holy filament
and twisting holy souls into a web,
once active hands decay to elements.
A star returns, and evil’s set aright.
Repay the grace with vigilance — and fight!
