In Sleep, Bright Memories

A Year of Sonnets — 005/365

Now let us sleep and wear away the woe
that settles on our bones, unholy bonds
that bind us to the weary days we know,
depriving us of little joys: the fond
remembrance of winter, snowmen smile
and cocoa kindles eager warmth within
ensuring that our souls endure the trial
that frost invokes; the hours we would spin
our cloaks as superheroes, laughing storms
while we’d defend the world from certain doom
defying Evil in its many forms,
the sounds of summer banishing our gloom.

In dreaming, we recall these silly plays,
these tender moments. Try for better days.
