It Can’t All Wait Until Tomorrow

Sometimes, things have to be addressed right freaking now.

Perhaps the headline sounds like a trite cliche, the kind of stuff that gets regurgitated on this site all the time.

But there’s a kernel of truth to it. It is so goddamn easy to put things off.

It feels like you never have enough time. Or enough energy. Or all of the resources that you need right at hand. There’s always some other thing you need to do to prepare.

Time management is one of those things that never came naturally to me. I never really saw it modeled as a child.

I went to school. My parents went to work. We came home. We watched TV. There weren’t really schedules or projects, or any kind of organization to follow. Everything happened organically. Meals were ready when they were ready. Things happened “when I say so” “because I say so!

We’ve always been kind of free-wheeling. Which isn’t exactly a bad thing — and God knows that my parents did the best that they could.

Still, that kind of mindset is really unhelpful when you’re living a creative and freelance life. Learning how to manage your time and juggle a whole bunch of projects successfully is a nice skill to have.
