It’s kind of a joke, and kind of not. That’s kind of the point.
I think we tell ourselves that they’re secretly miserable, on the inside, to make ourselves feel better. I don’t think they’re miserable at all. They all seem happy and content and just fine to me.
As for what’s stopping me from getting bariatric surgery, there’s the $20,000-$40,000 pricetag, for one. That’s about as much as I make in 15 years.
That’s my big problem with the words “Just Do It”. It ignores the logistical problems. It ignores the cost. It assumes that the door is open and willing, and that you’re not sitting inside of the iron cage that is poverty.
