Light, Unconquerable

A Year of Sonnets — 054/365

Perhaps it’s not enough to hold the truth
a lotus cupped by timid, tired hands
to leave it undevoured, nail and tooth
that seek illumination. Understand
how light reframes the world wherein we wake;
perspective binds our hands: the way we see
the wounds and walls informs the tools we take,
the choices made, the people we will be.

But honesty is brilliant, perfect light
beyond all source or shadow, phantoms sink.
With clarity, we’ll set the world aright.
Release the light. Surrender it, love, blink.

Perspective has its place, but many lies
unchecked by light can hasten our demise.
