Margie’s Barbie
An Obviously Serious Poem
Apr 11, 2024
after Margie Pearl
Our Barbie swam in acetone
and died a million deaths;
her face, once here, is scary gone–
she never took a breath.
We ripped her seams and painted eyes
a multitude of hues;
and threw her hard against the wall:
no, she could never bruise.
We gave her Joseph’s parachute
and sent her to the sky.
Despite her sleek and slender frame
she wasn’t meant to fly.
The Huntress, built forever strong
went swimming in the pool
before we shut her e’er away.
Oh were we children cruel?
We loved her with our vicious play
enjoying many a day.
