Oh, no! I’m hoping that this isn’t as big a disaster as it sounds like. Dealing with this personally is bad enough, but on a professional level, it sounds like an abject nightmare!
Backing up is definitely important. I already do a basic job of it — basically everything on my computer worth having is linked onto Google Drive, so it saves itself. I also have an external hard drive with copies of the most important stuff. It feels like I should do something fancier, have some kind of big service or something.
Mostly, I’m sad for all the original drafts of my first novel. They’ve all gone off somewhere in the great digital ether. Not that they were very good or anything, but it’d be nice to have them for the memories.
