Self-Reliance

A Year of Sonnets — 043/365

No, faith is not enough to intercede
in every doubt; we are left wandering
through nothingness — will hazy days recede
or are we left to grief, to pondering
the cut and crack of stars against the dark,
the light by which we cleave a certain way?
Although the misery is might, stark,
capricious luck may see us through to day.
But God will not in majesty descend
with mercy held aloft, no kindness falls
from Heaven high above, do not depend
on mighty masters hiding behind walls
for they will disappoint: you must rely
upon your meagre self. Though weary, try.
