So You Failed at NaNoWriMo
What comes next for the hopeful writer?
So you failed at NaNoWriMo.
In fact, you failed at NaNoWriMo so bad that it took you a few days to come to terms with that fact. While you might have started November with the best of intentions, something fell apart over the course of the month. And your progress simply bottomed out.
You didn’t write your 50,000 words. You didn’t finish your daily motivational posts. You just kinda crapped out.
What the hell do you do now?
First, you’ve got to look at the silver lining.
Chances are fairly good that you did not commit a felony sometime during the month. You definitely didn’t kill anybody. Nobody in the world is going to be hurt by the fact that you didn’t reach whatever goal you set for the month.
Oh, you’re feeling disappointed, sure. But disappointment, no matter how often it comes to strike, won’t kill you. Even if it does weigh you down a bit.
And it’s especially hard to swallow, because you know that a bunch of people finished their 50,000 words, printed out their certificates, and got a chance to celebrate their own accomplishments. And many of them, drunk on their success, even queried agents, despite the fact that…
