A Year of Sonnets — 070/365

Perhaps it’s not enough to close your eyes
and pray that faeries carry you to rest,
to give the waking world your sweet goodbyes
and drape a leaden blanket ‘cross your chest.
With hope you’ll drown into some fairer dream —
like Hope is not a traitor in the night
who’d sooner draw away a tortured scream
than give serenity, turn off the light
that burns the oddest hours on to ash
and lift the monochrome from dreary days
that tend toward chaos, moments seem to smash
into a dreary memory of haze.
A life well lived! — You laugh and caffeinate.
Imbibe enough, the madness will abate.
