The main reason that I love Medium is because it’s a simple and clear way to share ideas. It’s not as convoluted and messy as Tumblr, and it’s a better place for long-form ideas than Facebook or Twitter.

It’s a place where I can organize my thoughts, and write as honestly as possible.

In my lofty thoughts, I like to think of myself as a millennial Anne Lamott — talking about the messy and personal parts of life. Except, since I don’t have to get a book of essays published like Anne, the bar is a little lower. And this is a great place to form a readership.

And now I can even make some money and get some attention while doing it. It’s not a seven-figure advance from a major publishing house, but it’s something.

I’d love to get a more professional position someday — publishing a novel, maybe; but I’d also love to work for a major magazine or newspaper, writing a column. Medium’s kind of like that for me, but I’m not pidgeonholed into a singular subject. I can write my thoughts — today, they’re about gracefully receiving your audience. Tomorrow, they might be about poetry or asexuality or pedagogy or . . . well, anything.

This is a bit of a ramble, I know. I’m sorry. :-)
