The Only Secret is Tenacity
Even so, it doesn’t mean that writing is easy.
You have to keep showing up. You have to keep moving forward.
There are so many people out there who are looking for the secret of being a writer. What kind of magic does it take to go from actually having an idea to having a written book?
There must, after all, be some secret ritual. Some mystical thing that they aren’t doing, some obscure literary god that they need to appease before they, too, will be blessed with the inspiration to finish their book.
They have the idea, after all. They want it to be a book. And if you tell people you’re a writer, people will often share their great idea for a story, and offer to let you write it if you go halfsies with them.
They don’t get it: You have to keep showing up. You have to keep moving forward.
Coming up with an idea isn’t enough. Wanting to write a book isn’t enough. Dreaming about it isn’t enough. If you’re going to be a successful writer, you have to get to the place where you’re willing to sit down and do the work of writing.
No matter how uninspired you feel. No matter how difficult it is. Whether or not your muse is with you. You must be tenacious. You must keep writing.
