In this you can surpass God himself; He is beyond suffering evil; you are above it. — Lucius Annaeus Seneca, Of Providence.

They say that life abandons us, the end
envelops us: We’re spirited away
and left to face the ultraviolet throne
without a voice. We’re blasted by the light
and found forever wanting. We depend
on sin and avarice, enduring days
that God could not withstand. No, we, alone
stood in our shoes and fought the losing fight —
whatever makeshift tools that we could bend
or break to our own ends, we did; displays
of love were precious, rare. Our bodies groan
from grief and other ills. Death is delight
for those who lived devoid of grace and love.
So spare us judgement, You who watched above.
