When to Walk Away From Home
A Year of Sonnets #94
1 min readSep 3, 2019
Forever is a house of burning stone
and you are left to wander on, alone
through words that cut, those tiny diamond blades
that cut away the pride and joy displayed,
the product of some discipline or grace
that your initiative mastered and chased.
Now you have blossomed, lovely, and they laugh
as if your need to learn and grow’s a gaffe,
some kind of failure tied to open eyes
who try to peer through smoke and hazy lies.
And those you love would drag you to the flames
forget the world and its hopeful games.
Abandon grief and batter down the door,
and walk away: freedom forevermore.
