Yes, I’m with you. Your friend’s mindset seems absolutely backward. And all you have to do is look at the results: generations of students who walk away from books as soon as their education is done. Who see reading as a chore and not as a pleasure.

Literature is not math. It should not be taught like math. Good heavens above.
